Mom’s Lasagna

1 lb ground beef

1 lb ground pork sausage

2 - 15oz can tomato sauce

2-3 Tbsp fresh chopped basil

Salt and pepper to taste

1 cup sour cream

4 oz cream cheese, softened 1 cup+ ricotta cheese (add more if desired)

4 cups shredded mozzarella cheese

1 cup shredded cheddar cheese

8 oz lasagna noodles (you will need 9-12 noodles depending on whether you do 3 or 4 layers)

 3-4 green onions

Brown meat together. Add tomato sauce basil and salt and pepper. Simmer together. Boil noodles in salt water until al dente. Mix sour cream, cream cheese, ricotta and green onions together in a bowl. Layered together in a greased casserole dish. Be sure to put a small layer of meat and sauce in the bottom of the pan to prevent noodles from sticking. Then continue with layers of noodles, meat sauce, cheese mixture and shredded cheese blend until you have 3-4 layers. Top with remaining shredded cheese. Cover loosely with foil. Bake at 350 for about 45 minutes or until center is hot. Note: you can make this ahead and put in the refrigerator or even the freezer but you will need to adjust the bake time accordingly. If it’s been in the refrigerator and is cold it could take up to an hour and 15 minutes to an hour and a half.
